Last week we launched our first Cross Step course run in association with The Real Ideas Organisation. The students from Newquay, Penzance and Falmouth completed a number of lifeguard training skills, both in and out of the water. This six week course is designed to enable people who are not in training, education and employment. The students will finish the course having completed their NARS beach lifeguard award, BSA surf coach award and mutliple skills in presentation, media, coaching, CV building and much more.

A1Surf.com has become one of the founding partners of Groundswell, a new not-for-profit organisation for young surfers in the UK.

Groundswell was set up with the aims of inspiring and educating young surfers aged 13 -21 in Britain.

With surfing as the backbone of the foundation, Groundswell will provide education in many areas such as marketing, business management, entrepreneurship, video editing, beach life guarding, surf coaching and PR to name a few.

Using short workshops and on-going projects with well placed work placements in the surf industry Groundswell will set out to bridge the gap between young people and employment in or around the surfing and tourism industry.

Groundswell will also make professional surf coaching accessible for young up and coming surfers, who may miss out on more mainstream opportunities due to lack of finance.

A1Surf.com will help promote Groundswell to its large community of surfers, as well as aim to offer more hands-on experiences.

David Somerville from A1Surf.com said: “Groundswell is an organisation with some great aims and intentions.

“We will help to spread its message to our online surfing community and also offer some practical and educational experiences for young surfers.

“We are really proud to be on-board supporting Groundswell, especially if it can help inspire more young surfers to progress within the industry and competitively too.”

Chris Thomson, one of the team behind Groundswell, said: “The Groundswell team are very happy to have A1Surf.com onboard as a business sponsor, offering up more opportunities for our groms via work placement and coverage for the surfers hoping to build a better CV be it for employment or a professional career in surfing.”

If you fancy doing a short promo surf video of yourself we have been offered the chance by Chew TV to do one this Friday 15th May. The day will run from about 11am to 4pm in Plymouth. We are running transport from the Newquay area leaving about 9.00am and will be back for 6.00pm. The day is FREE and the only cost would be for us to buy our lunch from their cafe. You will need some un-edited footage of yourself preferably in either Quicktime or AVI format. If you have footage on tape make sure you bring the camera and any leads to download it. If you dont have any footage we have some from trips to Lanzarote and Spain that still needs editing. The finished videos will be up loaded to the Chew TV internet site so if you want to put any music on it needs to be copyright free.
If you are interested let us know as spaces are limited and will fill up fast.
Apologies to those that can’t make a week day but it was an opportunity we couldn’t miss and we will make sure we do some more workshops on an evening or weekend in the future.
